Why We Love Habits (And You Should, Too!)

Why We Love Habits (And You Should, Too!)

What is a habit? By definition an habit is a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up. We know that there are good habits and bad habits. In this post we are going to focus on the good ones. Why, well we here at Inspire DEFINED promote positivity. If you find us speaking of negative things it will only be to emphasis the good that comes from it and/or how it helps to build character, strength and success.

In researching highly successful people in a wide range of fields be it business, careers, entrepreneurship or faith, one of the main similarities was that they had habits. Good habits that they performed on a daily basis. There is a saying, it takes 21 days to build a habit and 90 days to build a lifestyle. Our goal here at Inspire DEFINED is to help our readers create a inspiring lifestyle they will be happy with.

Forming good habits will improve your goals of creating success in your life. Good habits will heighten you creative thinking, increase your work and life productivity, relieve stress, and help you create a work-life balance you can live happily with. This also means addressing the bad habits that we have already formed and replacing them. Take a moment, grab an pen and some paper and write down those things that you repeatedly do from day to day that has caused you to not succeed in your goals. Wait….do you have goals? That will be the topic of another post. For now look at your list. Now write down any positive things you do day to day. Evaluate that list.

Now lets start planning how to break the bad habits and incorporate more good habits into our day. These will help you on your road to a better you. Picture what success looks like to you. Not what society says success is but what you as an individual in control of your self-will. Believe it or not success in small steps is a big deal. For me as long as I accomplish at least one goal I set for myself everyday. I have reached success. Like completing this blog post. Believe it or not, it was a major goal for me today. What comes of it after I hit the publish button, that would just be an added bonus to the goal if its read by even a single person.

Here are some goals you can set to create a good habit to help you follow through on for a small success step.

  1. Create a morning routine. I’ve heard since a child that the early bird catches the worm. One good habit to form in reaching that goal is to wake-up and make your bed. Be consistent.
  2. Challenge your thinking. Create a habit to learn at least one new thing every day.
  3. For my business owners and entrepreneurs, embrace your failures. Create a habit by stepping out of your comfort zone and try again tomorrow and the next day and the next day. Do not quit, that is a habit.
  4. Start saving. Create a habit of adding to your savings account and not touching it.

Well that’s a start and this is why we love habits and you should too. It’s a process, habits aren’t formed over night. Take it one day at a time and watch how things will turn around in your favor.

Until our next post, inspire to be inspired and remember, “You are the Walking Definition of Inspiration.”
